Contents of the application file:

  1. Appendix 1 and 2 (dated and signed) – 1 copy
  2. Europass CV – written in the intended language of instruction – English or an equivalent CV
  3. Letter of intent (approximately 1-2 pages)
  4. Study diploma of the equivalent

➜If the original document is issued in Romanian, English or French, 2 individual copies of the original document authenticated by a notary public;

  1. Transcript of Baccalaureate* (as the case may be)

➜ If the original document is issued in other languages than the above mentioned, 2 individual copies of the original document authenticated by a notary public + 2 individual translated copies of the original document authenticated by a notary public;

  1. High school transcripts for 9th-12th/13th grade

➜ If the original document is issued in Romanian, English or French, 1 simple copy of the original document;

➜ If the original document is issued in other languages than the above mentioned, 1 simple copy + 1 translated copy of the original document authenticated by a notary public;

  1. Other study documents* (as the case may be):

Example: Pruebas de Aptitud para el Acceso a la Universidad, calificación Apto din Spania; Panellinies Exetaseis – certificate for the national high school examinations in Greece; Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or ACT from U.S.A., etc. – if the original document is issued in other languages than Romanian, English or French, 2 individual copies of the original document authenticated by a notary public + 2 individual translated copies of the original document authenticated by a notary public;

  1. Birth certificate

1 copy + 1 legalized translation in Romanian of the original document, regardless of the language in which it is written (for EU Applicants);

➜ 2 copies + 2 legalized translations in Romanian of the original document, regardless of the language in which it is written (for Non-EU Applicants);

  1. Photocopies of passport ➜ pages 1, 2, 3, 4 (Photocopies of identity cards are not accepted) – 2 copies;

The passport must be valid at least for 6 months after the application submission date.

  1. Medical certificate in English or French, containing results of general physical examination, as well as ophthalmological, ENT, neurological, psychiatric examinations – 1 copy;

The medical certificate must also include information regarding the applicant’s possible chronic diseases, must be signed and sealed by the family doctor/specialist who examined the applicant and must bear the official stamp of the medical institution that issued it.

  1. Psychological examination1 original copy

The psychological examination is mandatory only for the applicants of the Faculty of Medicine.

  1. Language proficiency certificate (see 4). Except for applicants from countries where the official language is the language of university instruction.
  2. Application form for the recognition of high school studies in order to be accepted into university studies 2 copies; The form can be downloaded from:

  1. 6 passport size photographs (3/4 cm);
  2. Photocopy of the payment document for the non-refundable application processing fee.
  • Entry Eligibility

Citizens of the EU, the EEA, the Swiss Confederation or third countries are eligible for application by evaluation of the documents attesting school performance and personal achievements.

A high school diploma from an accredited high school in the applicant’s country of origin is the minimum application requirement. This diploma must be recognized by the Ministry of National Education in Romania.

  • English Language

    UMF Cluj Napoca

In order for applicants to demonstrate their language proficiency, the application files must include supporting documents. Please include one out of the following three documents:

  1. an internationally recognized language certificate:

a. for the study programs with courses taught in English the following certificates are recognized:

– Cambridge English: Cambridge English: First (FCE), Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE), Cambridge English: Business Vantage (BEC Vantage), Cambridge English: Business Higher (BEC Higher);

– IELTS (minimum result: band 5.5);

– TOEFL iBT (minimum result: 72 points);

– TOEIC – all test components: TOEIC Listening and Reading and TOEIC Speaking and Writing, with the following minimum results: Listening 400 points, Reading 385 points, Speaking 160 points, Writing 150 points.

Certificates with limited validity must be valid at the beginning of the academic year in which the applicant enrolled.

b. for the study programs with courses taught in French the following certificates are recognized:

– DELF (minimum level: B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);

– DALF (minimum level: level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);;

– TCF (minimum level: level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);

– TEF (minimum level: level B2 – 541 points);

– DFP (minimum level: level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);

– Other valid French language certificates issued by the French Cultural Centre and by the French Alliance

Certificates with limited validity must be valid at the beginning of the academic year in which the applicant enrolled.

Certificates must include the following information: the overall language level achieved by the certificate owner (at least B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and proof that all the four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) were evaluated.

  1. a high school diploma issued by a school where English or French was the medium of instruction;
  2. a language certificate (minimum result: level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) issued by the Department of Modern Languages of “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Cluj-Napoca after a general English/French language examination that evaluates candidates’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

For this option, please register with the Department for International Students by sending an email to studentistraini@umfcluj.ro. Please complete and sign Appendix 6 and then attach it to your email. The available dates for the English and French examinations offered by our Department of Modern Languages can be found in Appendix 5.

Each application file must contain a language certificate.

The written exam takes 2 hours and is followed by the speaking test (approximately 10 minutes/applicant). Depending on the number of applicants, the entire speaking test may take several hours. Before the examination date, applicants must register with the Foreign Students Department. On the test date, applicants must bring a valid passport or identity card. Applicants who fail to register with the Department for International Students or to bring a valid passport or identity card will not be allowed to take the examination.
An applicant is allowed to sit only one English or French language examination at the Department of Modern Languages in the 2019 admission session.
Certificates will be issued within a maximum of 7 working days and will be sent directly to the Foreign Students Department.

  • Tuition Fee

    UMF Cluj Napoca

The tuition fee per year of study for newly enrolled applicants admitted in the academic year 2019-2020 based on the evaluation of their application file is of EUR 6000 for the study programs in Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy. 

All applicants, except for those who have been admitted within the Admission of Romanians Everywhere must pay a non-refundable application processing fee in the amount of EUR 250.

  • Special Provisions

To the attention of all candidates for admission 2019: Please include in your registration file, the consent statement regarding the processing of personal data, which you will find attached. Without this agreement your file will not be processed.

On-line enrollment is not possbile.

Incomplete files are processed, but are not eligible for evaluation.

Appendices 1 and 2 must be dated and signed in order for the file to be evaluated.

The results of the selection process cannot be contested.

The university is not deemed liable for the promptness of postal traffic.

Any correspondence delivered to the university after the deadline and the completion of the selection process will not be taken into consideration.

Given the need for doctor-patient communication, clinical training, seminars and practical works are carried out in Romanian beginning with the fourth year of study.

If upon final enrollment/matriculation you do not hold a high school diploma or and official document stating that you graduated from high school, or if any fraud is detected, you will automatically lose the place obtained following the selection process and will not be reimbursed any fees that you may have already paid.

In the English and French study programs, applicants are admitted only by evaluation of their performance and personal achievements.

If the applicant’s family name and given name on the Diploma is not identical with the family name and the given name which appears on the birth certificate, the applicant must submit an authenticated explanatory note.

Candidates can only take one English and one French examination at our Department of Modern Languages in the 2019 admission session.

The fees that the student pays before matriculation are non-refundable.

DO NOT send original documents, send only authenticated copies!

Attach a document describing the marking system used in the schools that you attended (the equivalent grades for failed-excellent).

Individual evaluation of application files also includes the assessment of the following:
a. Applicant’s high school education: type of high school that the applicant graduated from, results obtained in the baccalaureate / high school leaving examination;

b. Proof of language skills in the language of university instruction, attested by language certificates mentioned under point 4;

c. Quality of extracurricular activities: CV, professional experience in medicine-related fields, other relevant achievements, voluntary work, etc.

d. Letters of recommendation.

Faculties may interpret the evaluation criteria differently.

The results will be posted on the university website no later than August 1st 2019 for Medicine and Dental Medicine.

Applicants who have been accepted will also receive an answer by E-MAIL.

  • Provisional Enrollment

    UMF Cluj Napoca

By selecting you, the University takes no responsibility for your enrolment as a student. Admission followed by enrolment requires the following:

  1. submission of all original documents required in the final enrolment instructions;
  2. complying with legal enrolment requirements, including recognition and equivalence of high school education by the Romanian state authorities;
  3. complying with legal conditions for temporary Romanian residency for the duration of the studies;
  4. signing the study contract and payment of required fees;

If you were selected on the basis on a fraudulent application (you provided information that is not in compliance with actual facts), the University will decline your enrollment.

Applicants

EU & NON-EU

  • EU Applicants

EU citizens do not need a study visa. However, they must notify the Ministry of Administration and Internal Affairs about their stay in Romania. The Foreign Students Department will provide counseling in this respect.

For EU, EEA and Swiss Confederation citizens, studies are recognized by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas, which is part of the Romanian Ministry of Education. All the documents required for the recognition of high school studies are also included in the application file.
If you are considered eligible and your file is complete, the University will submit your documents for recognition to the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas.
Upon evaluation of your file, the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas will issue a certificate/attestation granting you the right to pursue higher education studies in Romania.
Enrolment in the study programs of our university is dependent upon recognition of your studies by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas.
Failure to receive recognition from the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas prevents us from enrolling you.

*The study documents of citizens of Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus must be authenticated with the Hague Apostille.
The authentication of study documents with the Hague Apostille shall be done as follows: – The ORIGINAL document is apostilled (high school diploma, baccalaureate transcript) – 1 legalized copy of the original document with the apostille.

If an European citizen presents documents issued in a Non –European country, those documents must be prepared as following:
*The photocopies of the study documents and the birth certificate issued by a Non-European country must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Romanian Embassy in the issuing country or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country and the Embassy of the issuing country in Romania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Romania or by the Hague Apostille (as the case may be). For countries where there are no diplomatic missions of Romania or which don’t have diplomatic missions in Romania, the study documents will be stamped by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country.

  • NON - EU Applicants

    UMF Cluj Napoca

Citizens of non-EU countries need a study visa issued by the Romanian Embassy in the country of origin. The visa is issued based on the Letter of Acceptance to studies delivered by the General Direction of International Relations and European Affairs within the Ministry of National Education in Romania.

For non-EU citizens, high school studies are recognized by the General Department for International Relations and European Affairs within the Romanian Ministry of National Education. All the documents required for the recognition of high school studies are also included in the application file.
If you are considered eligible and your file is complete, the General Department for International Relations and European Affairs issues a Letter of acceptance to studies. This letter is indispensable for obtaining the study visa.
Enrolment in the study programs of our university is dependent upon recognition of your studies by the General Department for International Relations and European Affairs.
Failure to receive recognition of your studies from the General Department for International Relations and European Affairs prevents us from enrolling you.

*The photocopies of the study documents and the birth certificate issued by a Non-European country must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Romanian Embassy in the issuing country or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country and the Embassy of the issuing country in Romania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Romania or by the Hague Apostille (as the case may be). For countries where there are no diplomatic missions of Romania or which don’t have diplomatic missions in Romania, the study documents will be stamped by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country.

Applicants from Algeria, Egypt, India, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria and Pakistan must also submit a file to offices of the Romanian diplomatic missions in the above-mentioned countries. Admission of applicants from these countries is based both on their selection by the University and the approval granted by Romanian diplomatic missions.
